It's strawberry season!
There's an old Zen story that I love called the Parable of the Strawberry. It goes a little like this:
A man traveling through open country came across a tiger. He fled, and the tiger ran
after him. Coming to a cliff, the man caught hold of the root of a wild vine and swung
himself down over the edge. The tiger sniffed at him from above. Trembling, the man
looked down to where, far below, yet another tiger was waiting to eat him. Only the
vine sustained him. Two mice, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away the vine. The man saw a luscious strawberry near him. Grasping the vine with one hand, he plucked the strawberry with the other. How sweet it tasted!
What a tale of savoring the present! I think of this yarn every time I fearlessly go after what I want. I adore this universal lesson in being so much that put this symbol in knits:
